Dear friend of Austria,
Summer is in full swing and there's never been a better moment to plan your next trip to Austria. Today we bring you a refreshed look at the Austria Hotel Collection, our curated roundup of the country's most distinctive independently owned hotels. Now featuring 32 properties, the collection has grown and evolved since we last shared it with you — new chalets, wellness retreats, and city hideaways have joined the roster alongside long-time favorites. Each hotel is chosen not for size or star rating, but for character: a genuine sense of place, warm hospitality, and that unmistakable Austrian Lebensgefühl — the feeling of truly being here, in this landscape, in this moment. From imperial Vienna to Alpine chalets and thermal-spring health resorts, here is where to rest and restore on your next Austrian adventure.
In Austria, hospitality is not just a business, but a way of life. Many hotels are still family owned and operated, with a proud tradition of providing personalized service and ensuring the comfort of their guests. These properties have often been in the family for decades, and caring for guests has been a source of pride and joy for several generations.
Warmly,
Sigrid Pichler

Viennese Elegance and beyond
Vienna's hotel scene continues to balance imperial grandeur with contemporary flair. In the heart of the historic First District, the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof occupies a 1913 neoclassical building that once housed the legendary Café Herrenhof, pairing refined interiors with its own modern Viennese coffee-house culture. For bold design and artistic storytelling, Hotel Sans Souci and The Harmonie Vienna continue to draw art lovers with interiors that double as gallery experiences, while Almanac Palais Vienna, set on the grand Ringstrasse boulevard just steps from the First District, pairs palatial architecture with a spacious wellness area.
Classic elegance holds strong at Hotel Ambassador, one of the city's most storied grande-dame addresses, open since 1898 and once host to Mozart himself. And for travelers who want a homier, apartment-style stay, Apartment Hotel Singerstrasse 21/25 offers thoughtfully designed rooms just steps from St. Stephen's Cathedral, ideal for those who want to settle in and live like a local.
In Burgenland's Lake Neusiedl region, close to Vienna, Marienkron Retreat & Health Resort remains one of Austria's leading destinations for medically guided fasting, longevity programs and Kneipp therapy, set within a former monastery reimagined with warm, natural materials.

Salzburg, where Hills and Mountains are Alive...
Downtown Salzburg, the boutique Arthotel Blaue Gans keeps contemporary design inside one of Salzburg's oldest inns.
Head out into the province of Salzburg and the choices multiply: Hotel Nesslerhof in Grossarl pairs spa gardens with panoramic pools, while in Saalfelden Leogang, Naturhotel Forsthofgut remains an eco-luxury standout built around sustainability and organic cuisine, and Hotel Der Löwe, family-run for more than a century, is known for its adults-only rooftop spa. Nearby, Hotel Krallerhof has expanded its wellness credentials with a longevity-focused spa concept alongside its long-running art collection.
In Bad Hofgastein, Wellness Hotel Sendlhofer's remains a design-led, family-run favorite, its industrial-chic interiors and farm-to-table restaurant LUKE'S Wohnzimmer built around a genuine sense of Alpine ease. Over in St. Johann, Sôha Hotels now brings together four slopeside properties under one lifestyle-driven brand, from adults-only retreats to family-friendly stays. For the more actively inclined, Dips & Drops in Flachau has reinvented itself as a bike-and-ski hub, complete with professional sports guides and even ice-bathing in the river Enns just outside.
Near the German border in Unken, POST Family Resort — with roots stretching back to a 17th-century postal station — has grown into one of Austria's leading family hotels, with a natural swimming lake, riding stables, a trampoline park, and its own thermal pool built to keep kids and parents equally entertained.
On the shores of Lake Wolfgangsee, the five-centuries-old Romantik Hotel Im Weissen Rössl continues to combine history with modern lake-and-mountain comfort.

Alpine Retreats to the West and the South
In Innsbruck, the cool and creative Nala Individuell Hotel in Innsbruck is a serene base close to the city’s cultural heart. Out in the Ötztal Valley, Das Central – Alpine. Luxury. Life in Sölden continues to court active, style-conscious travelers with its rooftop infinity pool, while AQUA DOME in Längenfeld remains Tirol's largest spa and wellness area, with twelve pools — including three floating ones — and seven saunas.
Kitzbühel's Schlosshotel Kitzbühel — a modern take on a Tyrolean castle rather than a historic one — recently marked its 20th anniversary, and continues to pair a 3,000-square-meter spa with easy access to the legendary Hahnenkamm. For a more private escape, LaPosch Resort in Biberwier has grown into a sixteen-chalet mountain hamlet with its own natural swimming lake, where breakfast is delivered to the door and privacy is the point.
Just over in Vorarlberg, Hotel Fernblick Montafon is a family-run wellness retreat above Schruns, famous for its Sky Pool and panoramic Alpine views. In the Arlberg region, some of Austria's most iconic mountain hotels remain in fine form: Hotel Arlberg Lech traces its roots back to a coffeehouse; Burg Hotel Lech perches above Oberlech among mountain meadows, with one of Western Austria's largest wine cellars; Walch's Rote Wand Gourmethotel in the hamlet of Zug pairs design-hotel style with a Michelin-starred kitchen; and Hotel Gotthard in Lech is worth a visit for its OMES world of home-brewed beer, homemade gin, and Alpine bacon alone.

And last but not least, we turn around and head south towards the province of Carinthia bordering Italy and Slovenia in the south, and have a look at the lakeside beauty Falkensteiner Schlosshotel Velden a 16th century castle turned hotel featuring a lake spa and beach club in Velden am Wörthersee. Hotel Schloss Seefels, on the same lake, offers five-star-superior luxury with a year-round heated lake pool warmed by bioenergy — a summer hotspot for its lakeside restaurant and beach loungers. The Mountain Resort Feuerberg perched on an Alpine plateau, surrounded by forests and featuring yoga, qigong, meditation, and many other enriching programs for body, mind, and soul; and Hotel GUT Trattlerhof & Chalets in the charming resort town of Bad Kleinkirchheim (for the ski history buffs among you, this is legendary Olympian Franz Klammer's hometown), a historic farmhouse transformed into a modern spa sanctuary. Also in Bad Kleinkirchheim, the Ronacher family's more-than-a-century-old hospitality tradition continues at Das Ronacher, an adults-focused wellness hotel built around its own thermal spring, part of the healing tradition tied to the nearby St. Kathrein Church that dates back to the Middle Ages.
