Ten Things To Know When Booking a Hotel in Austria
Finding accommodations in your travel destination can sometimes feel a little daunting, especially when it is your first time visiting a place. To make things a little easier, you can browse our curated selection of Austrian hotels. We have also put together this short list of things to know before you book, so you’ll know exactly what to expect:
- Hospitality is a longstanding tradition in Austria and many hotels are still family owned. Often, you’ll find that a property has been in the family for decades and caring for the wellbeing of their guests has been a source of pride and joy for several generations.
- Since many hotels are family owned, they also tend to be on the smaller side, especially in the country. Which means a more personal experience during your stay and a hotel with local character and charm.
- The variety of properties on offer reflects Austria’s long history. You’ll find a selection of interesting properties from castle hotels and chalets to futuristic looking spa resorts in the heart of the Alps, as well as ultra-modern design hotels with stunning city views.
- Most Austrian hotels pride themselves in their commitment to sustainability, starting with recycling and efficient energy use. The best of them went all in, with every aspect of the hotel’s design being as sustainable as possible, usually resulting in a harmonious overall concept with guests' wellbeing as the central philosophy.
- Austrians are gourmets at heart. This is particularly evident in the country's hotel kitchens. Many embrace a farm-to-table philosophy, where most ingredients are sourced from nearby farms or even a property’s own garden. While the Wiener Schnitzel is still one of Austria’s most iconic dishes, today's restaurants feature a diverse and updated menu that includes local delicacies as well as international fare.
- There are exceptions, of course, but usually the room price will also include breakfast, typically in the form of a lavish breakfast buffet.
- Especially in resorts, hotels offer two different booking options: 'Vollpension' means lunch and dinner at the hotel’s restaurant are included; 'Halbpension' means dinner is included. Of course, you can also opt for breakfast only, and explore all other culinary options available in the region you are visiting.
- It goes without saying that everyone in Austria’s hospitality industry speaks English fluently, even in the farthest Alpine regions. So you’ll not be lost in translation even when you are exploring the remotest valleys and climbing every mountain.
- Also good to know when planning your trip: Taxes and service fees are included in the room prices.
- Last but not least, discover the tool that makes searching for a hotel and booking your room as easy as one, two, three: Browse our Austria Hotel Collection, which features some of Austria’s most beautiful 4 and 5 star properties in Salzburg, Tirol, Vienna and Carinthia. All of the hotels in the downloadable catalog are renowned for their hospitality, uniqueness, and a typically Austrian touch which will make your stay unforgettable.
