Dear friend of Austria,
It is August, and while Back To School and even fall decorations seem to be on marketers' minds (personally, not a fan of that!), we invite you to immerse yourself in the Austrian sense of life, the Lebensgefühl [ˈleːbənsɡəˈfyːl], where warm hospitality and a passion for the country create unforgettable experiences. Join us for another itinerary and top recommendations to explore some of our favorite places and activities, some of which might not be on your bucket list yet.
We will take you from some of Vienna's cultural highlights to an eclectic outdoor shopping experience in Parndorf, and further south to the province of Carinthia. While Carinthia offers epic driving routes, we will still get you places with Austria's federal railways, the most efficient, economical, and sustainable way to explore the country!
Enjoy your trip!
Warmly,
Sigrid Pichler

Art abounds in Vienna
Let's get started in Vienna! While Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was born in Salzburg (and a lot of his legacy can still be explored there), he moved to Vienna at the age of 25, where he would spend the final 10 years of his life. During this time, Vienna became the heart of his creative output, and it was here that he composed some of his greatest masterpieces.Today, Vienna offers countless ways to explore his life and legacy. From the historic Mozarthaus Vienna, where he lived during his most creative years, to the interactive exhibits at the House of Music, the city invites you to step into the world of one of classical music’s most iconic figures. A favorite is an interactive program called "Namadeus" at the House of Music, where you can playfully transform your name into a unique Mozart composition and even collect the score in Mozart's original manuscript as a souvenir.
Masters of the visual arts, Egon Schiele and Gustav Klimt, let you experience Vienna around 1900 with their masterpieces and exciting insights into that vibrant period of time. Located in the MuseumsQuartier Vienna – one of the world's largest and most frequently visited art and cultural spots – the Leopold Museum is a key cultural centre of the city and a treasure trove of Austrian art, showcasing an exceptional collection of works from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The Liechtenstein City Palace and Garden Palace will take you on a deep dive into Vienna's art history. Built over 300 years ago by one of Europe’s oldest noble families, the Princely Family of Liechtenstein, these two palaces are now considered ultimate cultural treasures. The palaces are exclusively accessible via public or private guided tours or exclusive events offering visitors spectacular baroque staterooms, unique architecture and major works of European art spanning five centuries. Generally, public guided tours are held twice a month (registration is required). The tours are only held in German, however, English audio guides are available for free. English guided tours will be offered on selected dates. Private guided tours can also be arranged in different languages.
To round out your tour through art history, we highly recommend a(nother) visit to the must-sees of the Kunsthistorisches Museum and the Imperial Collections of the Habsburgs in Vienna which include an extraordinary array of art from ancient Egypt, classical antiquity, and the Renaissance. With masterpieces by renowned artists like Titian, Rembrandt, and Vermeer, the museum offers an immersive experience into centuries of artistic achievement. From the world’s most extensive Bruegel collection and the famous “Saliera” by Cellini to 2,100 objets d'art from the Habsburgs, you can also enjoy coffee, dinner or a party in the marble Cupola Hall. If you still want more, head over to the Imperial Collections of the Habsburgs at the Imperial Treasury, the Imperial Carriage Museum, and the Theater Museum.
